DOT's Requirements to Add Drivers to the Random Pool

Send Drivers for Pre-Employment DOT Drug Testing after a Full Query in the Clearinghouse and completing the Drug & Alcohol Policy.  Drivers are Automatically Added to the Random Pool and allowed on the Road when Negative Pre-Employment DOT Drug Test Results are Reported by Express Labs MRO (Medical Review Officer).  DOT Requires a new Pre-Employment Drug Test for Drivers who have not been in a Random Pool for 30+ Days.

• Upon Enrolling, you may Add your Drivers that have been in a Random Pool within the Previous 30 Days and have Negative Pre-Employment Drug Test Results in your Company Name
• After Enrolling, Drivers are Added to the Random Pool when Negative Pre-Employment Drug Test Results are Reported by Express Labs MRO

Step 1: Clearinghouse Registration & Full Query - Click Here

• Employers must Conduct a Full Query in the FMCSA Clearinghouse to Confirm Drivers do not have any Violations and are Cleared to Drive when Hiring a New Driver.  Employers & Drivers must be Register in the Clearinghouse to Conduct Full Queries.

• ​DOT Requires Drivers to Receive a Full Copy of the Signed & Dated Drug & Alcohol Policy which is Compliant with 49 CFR Part 382 & 49 CFR Part 40.  Employers keep the Original Copy in your Files.

Step 3: Pre-Employment Drug Testing - Click Here

• Members are Required to Order Drug Tests Online (QPassports) in your Express Labs Account or use the Paper Quest Forms (provided by Express Labs).  After Enrolling, Express Labs Express Labs does not accept Drug Test Results from other Companies.  Your Company Name & Express Labs must be Listed on Drug Test Results.

Step 4: Supervisor Training Course

• DOT Requires all Supervisors take the Supervisor Reasonable Suspicion Training Course to Add Drivers to the Random Pool (Including Owner Operators who hire Drivers).  The Purpose of this Training is to enable Supervisors to Recognize and Determine the Signs and Symptoms of Drug and Alcohol Abuse to send Drivers for Reasonable Suspicion Drug or Alcohol Testing.  The Online Course can be ordered in your Account (Left Side Tabs)
